THE NEGRONI SBAGLIATO
“A negroni. Sbagliato. With prosecco in it.”
“Oooh, stunning!”
If you’ve been anywhere on the internet lately, chances are that you’ve heard this audio. Originally from an interview between House of the Dragon stars Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy, it’s got the whole internet buzzing over the negroni sbagliato. But what exactly is a negroni sbagliato?
First of all, sbagliato means mistaken, or bungled, in italian. The cocktail got its name from the story of its creation, which happened at the historic Bar Basso in Milan in 1972, a bar that is still open today. Bartender Mirko Stocchetto mistakenly grabbed a bottle of prosecco whilst searching for gin, and poured it into his negroni-in-progress, creating a drink that is much lighter and and more easily drinkable than the traditional negroni.
Traditionally, the negroni is one part red vermouth, one part campari, and one part gin. The negroni sbagliato tosses out the gin and replaces it with prosecco, lowering the alcohol content and creating a more delicate, but less complex flavor. To complete the drink, you add ice, and an orange slice. Now where in Milan could one get this wonderful drink?
One option is the historic Bar Basso, where the negroni sbagliato was created. This historic bar has become a Milanese institution, serving quality drinks since 1947. With abundant chandeliers, and a bright red neon sign outside, this bar cannot be missed.
Nottingham Forest has been listed as one of the world’s best bars, and for good reason. Filled with exotic decor, and drinks galore, you’re sure to love whatever you order.
