SLIP INTO FALL

Since the 1950s, icons such as Marilyn Monroe have worn slip dresses. This fashion statement has been revived time after time by 90s icons such as Winona Ryder and Naomi Campell–icons of today’s trends, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. Slip dresses have been a trend that seems as if they will never die. Slip dresses, and their ability to make you feel classy, sexy, and flirty all in one, are eternal. They can be worn in the winter or the summer, long or short, layered or by themselves–their style is versatile. It can be argued that slip dresses are a piece of timeless class, a fashion trend that will never die, and a must-have item in your wardrobe.

The versatility of slip dresses makes it, so the possibilities of ways to style the statement piece are endless. Slip dresses can be used as a casual fall statement piece by wearing a long flowy slip dress (possibly with a light floral pattern for summer) with white sneakers such as Nikes. This simple but elegant pair can be worn out to a nice lunch with your friends, giving you a boost of casual confidence.

Another way to style your slip dress in any season is by layering. Layering is a beautiful way to piece together a stylish outfit with multiple trends. A slip dress, long or short, can be layered over a white or black t-shirt (whichever color complements the dress). For a look with more edge, try layering black tights or fishnets under the slip dress. The tights can be an addition when going out on a summer night or to keep warm but also look chic during the winter. Similarly, a slip dress trend bordering on grunge and edgy trends would be to pair the dress with a pair of clunky boots–such as Doc Martens–and a dark eye look with smokey brown eyeshadow, black eyeliner, and black mascara.

Think everything mini to transition from the grunge aesthetic to the Y2K aesthetic with slip dresses! A mini slip dress matched with a mini purse and mini heels. The slip dress can be any color or pattern with a mini purse that complements the dress, finished with black, white, or maybe even pink mini heels! A makeup trend matching this Y2K look would be sparkly eyeshadow and clear glossy lips.

Another aesthetic that slip dresses can help you to achieve is the “coastal grandmother aesthetic.” Pairing a light-colored slip dress, long or short, with a tote bag gives you a casual look of relaxation while also making you look studious. This slip dress and tote bag pair can also be matched with the previously mentioned combination: slip dress and white sneakers. This combination can make you look stunning while still being casual.

To oppose the casual look and use a slip dress to create a look of formality and flair, wear a long slip dress that is shorter in the front and longer in the back. Try a dark red or black slip dress matched with lace-up heels that lace up to mid-way around your legs. This look will be eye-catching on a fabulous night out.

Slip dresses are a must-have piece that can match almost everything in your closet. The slip dress gives the allure of sexiness and confidence. Any aesthetic can be achieved with a simple slip!
