PINK IS BACK
The color pink is back, and it’s bigger than ever. Not a muted pink either– we’re talking bright, bubblegum, “look at me”, Barbie pink. In recent years, this was a shade that was avoided (“cheugy,” if you will), but with the rise in Y2K fashion, Barbie pink is coming back, and I am stoked.
When Y2K fashion came to an end and darker, cool tone shades were more socially acceptable, rosy garments were shoved away. Why? What was so wrong with pink?
The rise of the “cool girl” put the nail in the coffin when it came to baby pink, and synonymously this meant women were reluctant in embracing their femininity. Pink was not “cool,” or “chill,” or “sexy,” or “serious.” Think Legally Blonde: Warner dumps Elle (who is never caught dead without her signature pink) because he thinks she is not “serious.” Elle is an incredibly feminine woman who is not taken seriously because she indulges in all things that are “girly.” She tries to change who she is in hopes of winning back her ex by wearing darker “serious” clothing, but later realizes that she is more than capable of accomplishing amazing things without having to sacrifice her femininity in the process.

Women today are thankfully reclaiming their femininity and wearing what makes them feel good. That means that bubblegum garments are being dug out of their hiding places and are making appearances on both the average woman and celebrities. The shade, while bold, is completely wearable and versatile. Pink isn’t limited to just clothing, either. Experiment with a bright pink inner corner (as seen on Kylie Jenner) or a bold pink lip and matching cheeks. Whether opting for a monochrome moment or a pop of pink, anyone can put their own spin on this trendy color and make it their own.
