NAIL THE LOOK

As we sink further into Autumn, it’s time to hit refresh on all things “statement” beauty.  With the return of the Fall color scheme, and the popularity of the #CLEANGIRL aesthetic, maximalist nail trends can prepare for hibernation.

Whether you see your mani and pedi as an accessory, or the main attraction, here at Vanity Stories, we’ve got you covered. Here is everything you need to know in order to stay up-to-date on nail trends this season.

Clean Sweep

Cut and file, ladies. Cut and file. Change out your regular coffin and stiletto shape, for a natural oval and almond form. It’s easy to maintain, and keeps your digits looking chic and clean. Add a clear-gloss overlay, and you are set to become this season’s highest paid hand model.

In preparation for the drop in temperatures, don’t skimp on moisturization. Nothing says “It” girl more than glowing skin, and that includes your hands. From cuticle oil, to hand balms, we’ve added some of our favorite recommendations below.

Boss Beige

Nothing is more classy than a solid neutral, and nothing says late Fall like an earthy toned-nail. Between stone and sand, coffee, or clay, you are sure to fall in love with a simple nude that compliments your individualized skin tone.

The LFM

You aren’t going crazy. We see it too. The French manicure is back on the scene thanks to throwback fashion, and capsule beauty trends.

Like all great trend revivals, the Little French Manicure ‘22 comes with some updates. As opposed to the Pamela Anderson block-white free edge, the mark of a true frenchie-subscriber champions a thin white line with a crystalline coating. Feel free to gather some inspiration from Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian, and Ariana Grande to find your own unique branding of dipped-tips.

Bunny-Ville

If you are not ready to leave your Sugarette, or Pillow Pie, you are in luck. Your baby pastel gels have not seen their final days, at least not according to current social media feeds. A cool white, or soft blush can give your ensemble the pop of color you need and open up space for matching accessories. Plus, they make holding your on-the-go coffee cup look extra special.

Red Rager

We love a good ode to the 60s, and if you have had the chance to scope out the nails of Fashion’s elite this season, you are more than likely to have spotted a bit of retro red. Now, before you remind me of how we started, I am aware that a fiery cherry polish is far from subtle. However, in the words of novelist Francesca Segal, “...red nails mean business. Red nails get the job done.” What can be more true of the women of 2022?

With a crisp crimson glaze, you are sure to hit the trend right before it goes massively mainstream this upcoming holiday season. My only hope is that the anti-acrylic extensions movement will outlive this season’s showcasing of Christmas lawn ornamentations. Yes, I’m looking at you, jumbo inflatable Santa owners.

EXPLORE VANITY STORIES

Abigail Kussow

Somewhere between driving forty-eight minutes to get to the nearest Sephora, and getting a degree in Anthropology, I found myself–-as many of us do– utterly dissatisfied with where I was headed. I would pick up extra hours at the university library because it gave me access to the latest issues Condé Nast had to offer, and I was guilty of the cardinal sin of wearing my favorite pair of sling-back mules in the laboratory. When the novelty of being in academia wore off, I clung to the joy I found in the novels of Joan Didion, and clips of fashion week that trickled down my social media feeds. Hi, I’m Abigail, and like my fellow VS authors, clean beauty and writing are part of the lifestyle. I refuse to divorce myself from monochrome minimalism and subtle plum lipstick. I’m a fervent believer that mascara should be layered on top and bottom. Shoes are just as important as your manicure, and perfume is best when it doesn’t crowd the room. I am the #caférecluse on her 2009-2012 Rachel McAdams aesthetic binge, and I wear it well.
