EUROPEAN TRAVEL BUCKET LIST
Planning a trip to Europe this summer? Many want to visit the continent's true beauty and authentic culture but avoid heavy tourism, especially in its peak season. While I do always recommend a visit to the “it” destinations in Europe: Paris, Rome, London, etc., here are some of the most underrated cities that you need to visit if you plan to travel to Europe!
Zamora, Spain
Home to the most Romanesque churches in Europe, Zamora is located in the community of Castile and Leon. The city is absolutely breathtaking, with many hills, waterfronts, and unique yet gorgeous buildings. There is much to see and do there: visiting the castle of Zamora, Balboraz street, or any of the many churches they have! Food specialties in Zamora include the pulses, chickpeas or 'garbanzos' from Fuentesauco, the cheese made from sheep's milk, honey from Sanabria, steak from Aliste, mushrooms, game, cold meats, cakes, and sweets.
Trogir, Croatia
Located in a charming and tiny island, Trogir is the most cultural and lively city in Europe. It’s narrow and ancient streets have been revived with Croatian culture, alongside a beautiful seafront. There is much to see and do in Trogir: visit cathedrals and admire their designs, try local croatian food like the Trogirski rafioli, the dessert consists of a filling of sweetened almonds in a casing of dough pastry, climb the bell tower and overlook the city, walk along the waterfront and enjoy the views, or simply wander the gorgeous streets and take in all the beautiful architecture this city has to offer.
Narbornne, France
When you think of visiting France on your adventure to Europe, you immediately think of Paris. While Paris is a beautiful city with a rich culture and history (and of course the Eiffel tower), Narbornne is a really special city where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of the country without the immense amounts of tourism. Narbornne is located in the southwestern region of France, and it’s famous for the Château l’Hospitalet Wine Resort, Beach and Spa, home to numerous spas, beaches, resteraunts, and of course, wine. If you are looking for a relaxing and surreal experience, come to Narbornne!
Thessaloniki, Greece
While this city is second to Athens, it is definitely worth a visit. What’s infamous is their
world-class food scene: Thessaloniki was named Greece’s first ‘City of Gastronomy’ by UNESCO in November of 2021. It’s also well-loved for its fun, creative vibe due to the large student and young adult population. Many do not know about the city's rich multicultural and multi-ethnical heritage. In the early 20th century, for example, Thessaloniki had the largest Jewish population in Europe, and the legacy of this Jewish community (especially in its architecture) is all around if you know where to look. The rich culture is present in many aspects of the city: food, museums, and other sites in Thessaloniki!
