THE RESURGENCE OF MIU MIU
Crowned brand of the year in 2022 by many, Miu Miu made the ultimate comeback, ensuring it’s place as the epitome of coquette and preppy fashion.
The Italian fashion brand was founded in 1993 by Miuccia Prada and launched its first debut in Paris Fashion Week in the spring of 2006. Miu Miu is the sister label to Prada and was established as a more youthful, playful, and affordable alternative to the Prada line. The pieces featured a sense of innocence through the models’ white eyelashes, lampshade skirts, and the play on schoolgirl uniforms. Provocation was also a large factor, evident in the prominent use of red lipstick and fine downy knits.
“The Miu Miu girl,” Prada said, “is the same as her big sister, only a little more angelic.”
Miu Miu blew up in a 2022 October runway show that presented a sexy play on office wear and uniforms. The show featured the brands’ controversial Micro Mini Skirt, which predicted the revival of low rise, prompting a strong divide in the fashion community. The skirt was plastered on every magazine, worn by celebrities and influencers alike.
Sydney Sweeney, the star of both Euphoria and Handmaid’s Tale was seen wearing a custom Miu Miu dress on the Euphoria season two red carpet, furthering everyone’s obsession with the brand.
The momentum of the brand didn’t stop there. Miu Miu furthered its popularity by renewing their Ballerina Flats.Created in 2016, the brand debuted its version of the ballet flat, and photos of the shoes began to crowd social media platforms. The resurgence of ballet core and coquette fashion tied hand in hand with Miu Miu’s aesthetic and the shoes. In the brand’s FW 2022 show, the ballet flats made a huge appearance paired with flare pants, wrap jumpers, shrugs, and skinny pants that create a “straight out of rehearsal” vibe. The flats are hard to find due to their extreme popularity, branding them the “it” shoe on every girl’s wishlist.
The brand responded with the creation of even more shoes, ensuring its status as the place to go for coquette fashion.
