MINNEAPOLIS FAVORITES

Home of the 11,000 lakes and a lot of snow, Minneapolis, Minnesota is an up-and-coming tourist scene you can not miss. At first glance, this midwestern state has nothing to offer: negative temperatures, snow, and nothing world-renowned besides Mall of America. However, that is not the case.

BRUNCH/BREAKFAST

Starting the day off right is critical to an excellent trip to Minnesota. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Good Day Café (and Bad Day Bar) is a local legend in Minneapolis. Initially opened in 2007, the founder David Potter Webb aimed to create a gathering place for the community on the idea of “ten-mile food”, meaning that the food was worthy of a ten-mile drive. It is primarily known for its made-from-scratch breakfast and its “drinks for the soul.” Located on 5410 Wayzata Blvd, be sure to check it out!

DINNER

A new obsession of mine, is the French cuisine restaurant, Barbette. Barbette provides an eccentric and welcoming atmosphere, with gorgeous paintings around the building. Barbette is an ethical restaurant, a part of many sustainable and local agriculture organizations such as the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture. Serving dishes such as steak frites and steak helene, Barbette gives eaters a French dining experience that you will never forget.

MUSEUMS

Despite the midwestern stereotype, Minneapolis has a fantastic art scene! Two museums worth mentioning are the Minneapolis Institute of Art and The Walker Art Center.

Home to over 90,000 pieces of art, the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) is one of the largest art museums in the United States. The Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts was established in 1883 to bring the arts into the community’s life. In 1889, the Society, now known as the Minneapolis Institute of Art, moved into its first permanent space, inside the newly built Minneapolis Public Library.

The Walker Art Center is a contemporary art museum in the Lowry Hill neighborhood of Minneapolis. The Walker is one of the most-visited modern and contemporary art museums in the United States and has a wonderful outdoor sculpture collection adjacent to the building. It’s famous Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture is the main event of the Theut, you must!

SHOPS

Finally, the best part of every trip—the shopping. Minneapolis has a wonderfully eclectic vintage and thrift scene, with tons of shops in each neighborhood. One of the best is Queenie & Pearl. Queenie & Pearl was first opened in 2016 by Lisa Banwell. The store emphasizes authenticity, positivity, and true feminism. The second you step into the store, you are welcome by smiling faces, positive music, and two floors filled with vintage and new clothing.

The store has a determined focus on bringing inclusivity and joy to all its customers. Employees are always kind, candles are always lit, and vibes are always good.

“When it comes to style and our shop we don’t believe in demographics or fashion rules. We believe in enhancing your own individual style and hope you find something that will delight you and make you smile every time you put it on regardless of age, bank account or size.” -Owner, Lisa Banwell

With a creative and wonderful combination of timeless and trendy, this store is definitely somewhere you can not miss!
