EAST COAST FALL
From the transition from the warm sunshine of summer to the early sunsets of fall, I spend my time in the Fingerlakes region. I mainly stay on Owasco Lake, seeing the summer sunset turn the once bright blue lake of the day into a haze of pink and gold at dusk. As the season turns, I notice the golden reflection of the sunset kissing the water brings out my highlight on my cheekbone; but as the summer turns into fall, that sunset gradually diminishes.
However, the beauty is not lost on the East coast. If anything, it’s just beginning to rise as the East coast is known for its breathtaking Autumn seasons. As I end my summer in Central New York, I make my way to Boston. Although Boston is a major city, it still has amazing Autumn sights.
As the fall season begins in Boston, I take in the beauty of the cherry blossoms and weeping willow trees in the Boston Public Garden. With each daily walk I notice hints of Autumn creeping in–wrapping its arms around the trees changing their color from a light pink or bright green color to vibrant hues of orange, red, and brown. Looking down during my walks, I realize that the color of an orange fall leaf on the ground matches my shade of nail polish. Both nature and myself were prepared for the change of the season, both prepared for a beautiful autumn season ahead.
Outside of Boston, and perfect for the month of October, is the town of Salem, Massachusetts. Salem is known for its history as well as its popularity during the month of Halloween. Going to Salem in the fall will allow you to take in the Autumn season–from its historical museums, its spiritual shops, and the Hocus Pocus House, Salem has proven itself to be a staple of fall on the East coast.
Although Boston and Salem are very special places, I believe that with each season we need time to ourselves to reflect and learn. In mid-October I typically venture up to the Adirondack Mountain region in Northern New York state. The vast landscape of the Adirondack region, with the peaks of the mountains to the depths of the valleys, make each community feel small and intimate. It is easy to get lost in the beauty of the wilderness while hiking the magnificent mountains. Looking down from the mountain tops you can see endless rows of trees covered in orange, red, and brown leaves–looking like a painting put together perfectly. The remoteness and crisp, fresh air allows the Adirondack region to reset your mind. This is the perfect place to appreciate the physical and psychological beauty of the Autumn season.
