A RAINY DAY IN NEW YORK
Growing up in New York City, I have seen my fair share of rainy days. From thunderstorms to sunshowers, for me, New York's rain has always been relaxing. Sure, it may look a little drab, with the gray skies matching the gray pavement, but there’s something comforting about rain.
A rainy day gives me the perfect excuse to curl up with a book and a warm beverage, no excuses needed for why I can’t go out. A rainy day gives me a mental and physical break from my hectic everyday life, allowing me to sit and just be- to just live in the moment and be mindful.
I close my eyes and hear the pitter patter of drops hitting the window, as I inhale and smell the sweetness of my favorite candle. I burrow myself further into my comfiest sweater, letting the warm knit envelop me and keep the chill from seeping into my bones. I feel the heat emanating from the mug in my hands, staving off the cold.
Today is a day for me. And while I feel perfectly content and comfortable in the little nest I've made, something compels me to go outside, to feel the rain on my skin. I grab my raincoat and tie the belt around my waist as I close my front door. I keep my umbrella closed and turn my face up to the sky . I feel the cold raindrops sliding down my face and I smile, refreshed, and at peace. Today is going to be a great day.
