CLASSICS OF FRENCH CINEMA
The first time I saw Jean-Paul Belmondo it was love at first sight.
Maybe it was in a Godard film, or maybe it was de Broca - who can remember. Maybe it was his ruggedly handsome looks, but I think it had more to do with the world he inhabited.
The New Wave of French cinema in the 60s - the Nouvelle Vague - knocked me off my feet and swept me away from the first second I became its witness. The films seemed to be set outside of time and space, pulling me into a world of mod fashion and colorful cocktail parties. The theater is my escape, submerging me in the classic art form of cinema.
It feels that as I dive deeper into the world, I begin to see its elements ingrain themselves in my lifestyle. In the morning, I style my bangs to mirror Anna Karina’s in À bout de souffle. I wander the streets of the 14th arrondissement like a flaneur, or like Corinne Marchand in Cléo de 5 a 7. These are the women who continue to shape and inspire me with their timeless beauty and grace.
I see the values of the Nouvelle Vague continue to permeate into the lifestyle of the French woman today. The romance, the classic style, the timeless taste - these are the trademarks of bona fide culture. I fashion my life to feel like an extended cut of a 1963 movie scene - and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
