Fashion runways (and everyone walking around in the world) latched onto the high waist for years, from pants and trousers to dresses lined slightly above the waist. However, there’s something we’re all noticing as spring draws to a close. We have all become insanely obsessed with the reimagined drop-waist, which marks a celebration of the body’s natural form.

A subtle ode to the original 1920s waistlines littered with tassels and other ornate details, the 2024 version of the drop-waist features a long bodice that reaches the hips or the thighs, which droops down without the extra frill. Recent silhouettes couple the drop-waist with fuller skirts, comfortable fabrics and volume at the bottom to fully accentuate this dramatic shift.

This trend isn’t exclusive to wedding fashion, though. Plenty of spring and summer 2024 runway looks from different designers and aesthetics featured the drop-waist in maxi, midi and mini dresses, proving that the drop-waist works with everyone’s personal taste.

The drop-waist should be added to all our wardrobes, especially since we can easily incorporate it into our summer rotation. Whether we wear a short drop-waist dress with braids in our hair and tennis shoes or a full-length shift dress accessorized with jewelry and a cute purse, it’s a stunning look that will have people asking, “Where did you get that outfit?”
