JOSEPHINE BAKER
The glamor of Paris is something that is timeless, almost eternal. Josephine Baker was a woman who encapsulated the beauty and sparkle of the city of Paris. Before becoming the iconic dancer and singer of the 1920s, Baker spent much of her youth in poverty until she found fame on Broadway. From there, she sparkled and shined in Paris, France, performing dances and songs. During her performances, her signature makeup look was dark eyes and dark lips.
However, it is not just her talents or the banana skirt and shiny pearls that make Josephine Baker a woman we love. Baker is also well known for her life devoted to fighting the injustices of racism. While she resided in France, Baker worked for the French Resistance during World War II. Her work was not contained just within French borders, during the 1950s and 60s Baker worked to fight against segregation and racism in the United States.
Josephine Baker is a woman who is beautiful inside and out, from her dazzling performances to her gracious heart. She catches the eye with her pearl necklaces, jeweled caps, and statement earrings, but also keeps one’s attention when learning of her powerful efforts to make the world a better place.
