RENAISSANCE MAKEUP

One of the best summer activities is spending an afternoon in an air-conditioned museum looking at the beautiful portraits and landscapes. Whether that means traveling abroad to see a specific renaissance era painting or going to a local spot, art is the perfect inspiration for a makeup look. I mean, why wouldn’t we want to look like the women in these beautifully displayed art pieces that people travel around the world to see?

Here are some tips and tricks to achieve a blushed, simplistic and summer-ready look that will have us looking like Alonso Coello’s Infanta Catalina Micaela and Sandro Botticelli’s Birth of Venus.

Skincare

Ah, the skincare routine. Although some makeup looks require specific products to help makeup stay on our faces all day long without moving, the renaissance look is not one of them, which makes it perfect for summer! Complete a personalized skincare routine for the skin’s needs, including a moisturizer and sunscreen.

Keep it simple because we don’t want any pilling, which means the makeup and skincare doesn’t set correctly on our skin and flakes off.

Makeup

We want a slight blurring effect and hydration, but we don’t want the heat to contribute to excess oils on our skin. Opt for Laura Mercier’s Pure Canvas Primer Blurring, which specifically targets each of these concerns and keeps skin looking fresh during the hottest days of the year.

Either way, we can add concealer under the eyes and on top of any spots, blending it out with a small brush. Afterward, powder is crucial to achieving the renaissance look without accumulating too many oils all over the face. Use loose setting powder on the T-zone and press that same powder under the eyes with a beauty blender.

When in doubt, use eyebrow gel. This will keep our eyebrows in place without worrying about the color or accidentally swiping the product away. Next, dust a light pink eyeshadow on the lids, which will match the blush we’re about to apply on our cheeks and make us look like a true renaissance painting.

Don’t go away yet! We still need to apply blush to the apples of our cheeks, traveling slightly downward for a naturally flushed look. Choose a color that enhances your individual features while sticking with the renaissance theme, such as pink or red. Finally, use a tinted lip product that is a deeper red than your natural color.

This makeup look is sure to make the cut for the upcoming summer season by combining our favorite trendy products, such as lots of blush and minimal foundation. If you want to look effortlessly beautiful (and quite literally like a painting), this is the perfect trend to try before it disappears.
