THE RETURN OF TENNIS FASHION

Tennis fashion has been in existence since the early 1900s; however, we still see tennis fashion trending today. In the early years of the 1900s, tennis fashion consisted of a long skirt and a lace-up corset. Tennis fashion eventually evolved into shorter pastel tennis skirts, neon shorts, visors as accessories, and white tennis shoes–all throughout the 20th century. The constant evolution of tennis fashion makes us wonder what it is about tennis fashion that has made it so prominent decade after decade.

The idea of playing tennis in one's leisure time falls into the category of the “old money” aesthetic. The aesthetic of old money typically consists of neutral colors, high-quality clothing, and a preppy look–an aesthetic that overall gives you a mysterious lure and a put-together look.

Today when we turn to Pinterest or Tik Tok to search “tennis fashion” we do not see actual tennis players, but instead very fashionable women. The modern-day tennis fashion trend includes a classic tennis skirt (in white or black), an oversized crewneck (usually in a neutral or navy color), a collared blouse underneath the crewneck, and classic white tennis sneakers. The eye-catcher of this look is in the outfit itself, which gives off a preppy and old-money look. However, the beauty of the look can heighten with some soft glam and minimal accessories. Pairing the look with a liquid blush to make your skin glow and give the soft, feminine rosy cheeks look. Accessorizing the tennis look with a ring or a pair of earrings could extenuate the natural old money look even further; making you look casual but fancy.

We see a rise in tennis fashion each year during the summer season. Possibly because it is a look of leisurely glam or sophisticated mystery. Either way, tennis fashion is an important and prominent fashion trend that does not seem to be stopping anytime soon–only evolving.
