COASTAL COWGIRL

While last summer’s aesthetic was all about being a coastal grandmother, this summer is all about the coastal cowgirl. Now you may be confused, as cowgirl doesn’t really bring up thoughts of the coast, but I can assure you that the coastal cowgirl aesthetic is very much real, and oh-so stylish.

The latest aesthetic trend to emerge from TikTok, the coastal cowgirl aesthetic has girls reaching for cowboy boots, straw hats, and statement belts, just in time for festival season. The trend is largely attributed to influencer Paige Lorenze, self professed horse girl and founder of the lifestyle brand Dairy Boy. Popular for her lifestyle and fashion content, even when living in the middle of Manhattan, Lorenze’s page has always been chock full of horses, cowboy boots, straw hats, and bikinis, branding her a city sweetheart with a southern soul.

A more youthful take on the coastal grandmother aesthetic, the coastal cowgirl is a free-spirited beach babe with a southern twang. If this sounds appealing to you, read on to learn how to emulate the coastal cowgirl style.

Coastal Cowgirls are all about light airy fabrics mixed with classic western denim. Think linen shirt, cowboy hat, and a trusty pair of jeans. Something you could be seen wearing on a ranch, or at the beach. Staples of the coastal cowgirl include cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, and bikinis, which can be worn on their own, or underneath the outfit, giving it a more beachy vibe.

The Essentials:

Denim

A workman’s fabric, denim is a sensible choice for a coastal cowgirl. Sturdy, stylish, and very versatile, denim is the base for many a coastal cowgirl outfit. From miniskirts to shorts, jeans, jackets, and vests. incorporating denim into your look gives it a very lived-in cowgirl feel.

Cowboy boots

The first thing I think of when the word “cowgirl” is cowboy boots. Coming in all colors of the rainbow (my personal favorite being white (a neutral, I know)) cowboy boots are a staple in every coastal cowgirls closet. Throwing on a pair of cowboy boots on an otherwise coastal outfit, like the House of CB Tallulah Dress instantly adds a western touch.

Cowboy Hat

I’m willing to bet that every girl has worn a variation of a cowboy hat at least once in their life. Cowboy hats are a staple of a variety of occasions, from theme parties, to bachelorette parties, to music festivals, and beyond. Adding a cowboy hat to any outfit, even just a bikini, adds that cowboy touch. To make it even more coastal, opt for a straw cowboy hat.

Coastal fabrics and colors

When I think of the beach, I tend to think of blues, whites, and sandy tans. When I think coastal grandmother, I think crochet, knit, linen, and eyelet fabric. Combining these more feminine and delicate coastal items with the rougher cowboy elements creates the perfect balance of edgy, and sweet.
