FALL EDIT: RUNWAY FASHION TRENDS

For fall, it’s usually all about the classics - from denim to boots to knitwear, any combination of those will have you covered. But if you are one of those who likes to be up on the trends, here are a few wearable ones we picked up from the 2022 runway shows as well as the streets of high fashion:

  1. White top and denim - Yes, the classics are in this season, and we couldn’t be happier. From runway shows to high street fashion, the humble white top and denim established their dominance over the fall trends for being one of the most wearable ones. They are the easiest to style, and almost everyone has a pair each in their wardrobe.

  2. Maxi skirts and dresses - Mini skirts had their moment, it’s now time to move on to maxi skirts and dresses, which are much more appropriate for the season as they make for an easy transition piece from the warmer weather to fall. Style them with a pair of sneakers for a model off-the-duty look inspired by Kendall Jenner.

  3. Crop tops and bralettes - Carrying over from the summer, crop tops and bralettes are here to stay in the Fall. From Miu Miu to Jacquemus, crop tops are the rage (even Dua Lipa sported a sparkly bralette from Marc Jacobs’ Fall 22 collection for her birthday). Pair them with an oversized blazer for the ultimate cool-girl look.

  4. Modern chic suits - Tailored corporate suits are back, but with a much more chic and laid-back look. Tailored waistcoats and suit vests are perfect for transitioning your wardrobe into fall. Ditch the usual shirt and blazer, and don a vest with a pair of wide-leg trousers to nail the contemporary look.

  5. Curved sleeves - While accentuated shoulders and shoulder pads have been on and off the runway for the past many seasons, it’s all about the curved sleeves now. These provide structure and are a good statement piece to have in your wardrobe.

  6. Grazing-the-floor hemlines - Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Rick Owens knocked us off with their beautiful dresses and pants, barely reaching down to graze the floor. Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Gucci, and Marine Serre also embraced this trend in their collections. What we like about these pieces is that they are absolutely flattering on almost all body types and can be styled up or down.

  7. Black on black - Another classic! Black was scattered across the runway this season, be it Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Givenchy, Ralph Lauren, or others. Bottom line, if anyone questions your obsession with all-black outfits, you now have a reason to justify it. Go get ‘em.

  8. Bright pops of color - We love pops of dopamine-boosting colors during the fall. The options are endless, from Valentino’s pink pieces to Bottega Veneta’s green and blue ones to Versace’s blue, pink, and green ones. You can either do head-to-toe monotone or use colors to add contrast to your look.

  9. Leather and faux leather - It can’t be fall without leather! The moto trend is also back this season, giving us a good reason to take out our leather jackets and biker boots. As for you, jackets, blazers, corsets, or pants, pick up whatever you like and roll with it. There’s no right or wrong here.

  10. Bomber jackets and cargo pants - Oversized bomber jackets and cargo pants can be seen all over the runway and in high street fashion. The secret to planning an outfit around them is to balance the overall proportions of your outfit. Pair your cargo pants with a crop top and bomber jackets with skirts or dresses for the perfect fit.

  11. Ballet flats - The rise in #balletcore has propelled ballet flats back into trend. Rodarte, Chanel, and Miu Miu showcased a range of styles combining ballet shoes with knitted tights and socks. We won’t lie, this pairing gives off a perfect vintage and old-money aesthetic, and we are here for it.

  12. Quirky and eccentric bags - Remember the social media frenzy that happened around Balenciaga’s trash bag? Well, recently, it’s JW Anderson’s Pigeon bag that gained a lot of traction. Needless to say, we will see a lot more of such quirky bags around this season. They have their own personality and are a fun way to add colors to your outfit and make a statement.
