Our Once And Future Brides

As I’m sure you are aware, Bridal Fashion Week 22.23 has wrapped itself up in a pretty, charmeuse ribbon, and your feeds are saturated with content. Social media is abuzz, and articles are being published at this very moment covering everything from new designers, top models, and–of course–the wedding dress trends to look out for in this upcoming year.

From Bianca Jagger to Grace Kelly, here are some of the bridal aesthetics designers of 2022 are betting you will fall in love with.

COTTAGE CORE

Milkmaid meets peasant-chic for this cozy countryside aesthetic, and who doesn’t love the thought of a simplistically natural wedding look? This is where all of you lovers of empire waistlines and bishop sleeves can rejoice, knowing that the end of ‘22 and the beginning of ‘23 remain your time to shine. Low messy buns and fresh faces accompanied the angelic models strutting these gowns down the runway, along with wildflower bouquets and draped trains.

THAT 70’s DRESS

With the return of several old fashion trends from yesteryears long past, I’m not surprised old favorites from the seventies, eighties, and nineties have stretched outside of TikTok wardrobe capsules and onto the bridal runway. I was, however, convinced that the light had dimmed on 70’s looks as we began to focus our attentions to late 90’s/early 2000’s styles (hello, low-rise jeans, statement T’s, and *sigh* pencil-thin eyebrows).

For those of you who’ve digested even the smallest bit of BFW22.23, I humbly admit I was wrong. All the disco-ball, baby-doll dresses were out, and they looked oh-so-cool. To go back to a fashion icon mentioned earlier, Bianca Jagger’s look-alikes were also in attendance, making me rethink my wedding vision board. Can I rock an ivory-colored, flare-legged, high-rise pantsuit?

ONLY PAOLO CAN GIVE YOU…A PRINCESS

There’s an old saying that within every woman is a little girl’s hopes and dreams. Nothing better shows this than the puffy-sleeved princess aesthetic entering the 2022-2023 fashion scene. I’m seeing tons of tulle, lots of layers, and an abundance of A-line and ballgown skirts. For the bride that truly wants to make the day the grandest it can possibly be, look no further than the regal aesthetic dresses fashion designers of this season have crafted for your eyes only. With the rise in hyper-feminine style pieces, like ballet flats, hair ribbons, pearls, and those floral Selkie Dresses, why not cap the year off with a wedding ensemble to match? With jewels, sweetheart necklines, and corset-fitted bodices, you’ll be sure to impress…just make sure you’ve got your pumpkin carriage waiting.

SWEET, SIMPLE, MODERNITY

Give me no ruffles, drape me no drapes, and please hold the bling. For the bride that just wants white and nothing else, rejoice to know you (and I) have found the winner. Winter white slip dresses, boat-neck, and box-fit minis were highlighted on the catwalk, reminding us all that there really is no beating minimalism.

Simple, modern…and yet timeless. The relaxed fit, and “bare” style leave the bride to be the showstopper. Add a touch of something special by jazzing it up with a veil or some strappy pumps. Think Ariana Grande, think Meghan Markle,  think Amanda Stanton.

WHAT THE TABLOIDS ARE CALLING “NONTRADITIONAL”

This is for the bride that wants to make a statement. Colors galore, and asymmetrical cut-outs were the makings of this BFW22.23 trend. It’s your big day, why not make an entrance with a splash of coral, or cobalt? With daring designs featuring bold cuts for a variety of silhouettes, let's call a spade, a spade: your body is going to look amazing. I’ll be sure to send flowers and thank-you cards to the designers on your behalf.
